A low-growing, perennial grass with fine blades. This grass is shade tolerant and makes a nice no-mow landscaping option. Except for in shaded areas, it struggles in hot weather. Red fescue is an excellent companion grass in regions where Kentucky bluegrass thrives to boost shade tolerance.
